A self-taught artist under the guidance of the artist P. van Wijngaerdt. He came to Indonesia in 1922, where he visited Java, Sumatra, Borneo and Bali. Several of his Indonesian works were reproduced in some volumes of "Sluyters" Monthly, of 1922 and 1923. With his wife he wrote a book about Indonesia, illustrated after his own paintings and watercolours. In 1926 he returned to The Netherlands and settled in Naarden. His work was selected for the International Colonial Exhibition in Paris in 1931, which was unfortunately destroyed by fire. A portrait by his hand, depicting the daugther of Sultan Mangkoe Negoro VII, painted during her visit to The Netherlands, is reprodiced in "De Jaba-Bode" of 26 July 1937. His works are also among the collections of Tropenmuseum, Amsterdam. Painter, draughtsman, publisher, author, musician, illustratir and prolific graphic artist in decorative, realistic style in a bright coloring.
